Nonogram 101 Championship: official rules

Last updated: October 18, 2026

No purchase necessary. Buying the Supporter Pack doesn't help you enter, score or win. The Championship is a contest of skill: points come only from how fast you solve the Daily puzzles. Void in Quebec and wherever else prohibited or restricted by law.

1. Who runs it

The Championship is run by Ellipses, the developer of Nonogram 101 ("we"). Contact: johnbreton37@gmail.com, or by mail at 104 Quito Pvt., Nepean, ON K2E 0A9, Canada. Steam is a trademark of Valve Corporation, and Google Play is a trademark of Google LLC; neither sponsors, endorses or runs this contest.

2. Who can take part

The Championship is open to legal residents of Canada (excluding Quebec) and of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are 18 or older, and at least the age of majority where they live, when they enter. The developer and members of the developer's immediate family and household can't win a prize. One person, one account: anyone found playing on more than one account is disqualified.

3. When it runs

Each Championship covers one calendar year, from 00:00 UTC on January 1 to the end of December 31 (UTC). A day's boards close, and pay out their points, one hour after that day ends in UTC.

4. How to enter

Sign in to Nonogram 101 with a Google account, choose a username, and post your times on the Daily puzzles (5×5, 10×10 and 15×15) on nonogram101.com or in the Android app. There is no other way to enter, and entering is free.

5. How points work

When a day closes, each of that day's three boards pays out by finishing position among signed-in players:

Place1st2nd3rd4th5th6th7th8th9th10th
Points251815121086421

Every other signed-in player who posted a time on that board gets 1 point. Guest times appear on the boards but don't take a place or score. Your standing is the total of your points for the year. Ties in the final standings are broken by the most first places ("wins"), then by the fewest boards played. If players are still tied for a prize place, they share the prizes for the places they cover equally.

6. Prizes

Total approximate retail value: US$85. Gift cards are delivered as digital codes and need a Steam account to use. Prizes can't be exchanged for cash or transferred. If a prize becomes unavailable, we may substitute one of equal or greater value.

7. Winners

  1. The final standings are those shown in the app once December 31 has closed.
  2. We review the top finishers' play before confirming them (see section 8), then email each potential winner, within 14 days of the year's close, at the address of the Google account they signed in with.
  3. A potential winner must reply within 14 days and may be asked to confirm their age, place of residence and identity. Potential winners who live in Canada must also correctly answer, without help, a time-limited mathematical skill-testing question.
  4. If a potential winner doesn't reply in time, isn't eligible or doesn't meet these rules, the prize is forfeited and may go to the next eligible player in the standings.

8. Fair play

Times must come from genuinely solving the puzzle yourself, in the official app. Bots, scripts, automated or assisted solving, modified clients, posting times you didn't achieve, sharing an account, or playing on several accounts all lead to disqualification. We may review play at any time, remove entries, adjust standings, and ban accounts that break these rules. Our decisions on fair play are final.

9. Your information

We use the information described in our Privacy Policy to run the Championship and to contact and verify winners. The usernames and standings of the top players are shown publicly in the app, and winners' usernames may be announced.

10. General

We may change, suspend or end the Championship if something outside our reasonable control (for example a technical failure, fraud or a change in the law) affects its fairness, and we'll post any change on this page. We aren't responsible for lost or delayed posts caused by network problems, device failures or the app being unavailable. By taking part you agree to these rules. These rules are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
